Widow Sues Corporations for Supplying Asbestos Products

Lula Delafosse, the widow of Mr Louis Delafosse who died from a cancer, filed a suit against the A.O. Smith Corp., along with 42 other major corporations, for distributing products containing asbestos throughout Jefferson County.

Louis was a lung cancer patient who passed away when he was 87 years old.

According to the documents attached to the lawsuit, Louis had significant occupational exposure to asbestos. Probably, Louis was exposed to asbestos while working at John Dallinger Steel, Inc. from 1941 to 1942 and 1955 to 1983. The records also states that Louis was an intense cigar smoker.

Lula is claiming for a compensation for physical torment and distress in the past and future, mental pain in the past and future, lost remunerations, loss of earning capacity, distortion in the past and future, past and future physical damages and medical expenses in the past and future.

Lula argues that the 43 defendants involved in this case were totally failed to properly test the asbestos-laced products before flooding the market with their hazardous commodities. Lula's petition also blames Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Corp and American Optical Corp for producing flawed masks which all the way failed to provide respiratory protection to the users.

However, the litigation doesn't state the reason why Louis didn't filed the suit when he was alive.

The judge who will preside over the case is Donald Floyd of 172nd Judicial District. The case was filed on May 2.
