The Telford lady who is suing the the Ministry of Defence (MoD) after she was diagnosed with mesothelioma, has talked about her plight.
The 31 year old mother-of-three claims that she developed mesothelioma after an explosion during a fire at an MoD site adjacent to her home in Donnington, Shropshire, in 1983.
She said white asbestos flakes were dropping in the area like snow. The building contained asbestos. During the fire, the fibres were let off into the atmosphere and settled on the nearby area.
She sought medical treatment for a swollen stomach last year, which has since been diagnosed as a tumour. She is one of the youngest people to suffer from mesothelemia.
"My father has briefly worked with asbestos. But I don't believe that is the cause of my illness," she said.
"This is a killer disease and I know it's killing me and I'm going to die from it. That's the hardest part, being told your going to die and having your whole life taken away from you before you've even had chance to live it," She said.
"It's just not fair, it shouldn't happen to me, it shouldn't happen to anybody," added the Telford woman, who doesn't wish to reveal her name.
A spokeswoman for the MoD said they were looking into the claim. She was not willing to add further comments regarding the issue.
