Linda Reinstein Honored

LONDON - Linda Reinstein, the Executive Director of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) was honored today by by the Forum of UK Asbestos Support Groups with a special recognition award. This was announced today by ADAO, the organization dedicated to serve as the voice of asbestos victims.

The award, which was a part of a special educational asbestos seminar hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group, recognized Ms. Reinstein for her remarkable service in fighting for the rights of asbestos victims in the United States and globally. The function was at the House of Commons.

"I am honored to receive this special award from the Forum of UK Asbestos Support Groups, which have worked tirelessly to evoke positive change for asbestos victims and I thank them and other victims groups, including the International Ban on Asbestos Secretariat (IBAS), headed by Laurie Kazan-Allen, for the important work they are doing. It is incredible for ADAO to be included in this movement," said Ms. Reinstein.

She said that asbestos should be prohibited worldwide just like slavery was abolished in 1800's.

"The Parliament passed a Resolution in June, 1806 about the abolition of slavery, but its message could easily be replaced with a message about the abolition of asbestos. I would like to see a similar resolution that reads: 'That this House, conceiving asbestos to be contrary to the principles of justice, humanity and sound policy...and the same is hereby utterly abolished, prohibited, and declared to be unlawful.' Clearly, this is a message we need to implement not only in the UK or the U.S. - but worldwide - that asbestos will not be tolerated and that victims deserve justice and humane treatment," She said.
