A Dorset widow is claiming for a compensation for up to £250,000 for the death of her husband due to an asbestos-related illness.
Cannon Film Productions no longer exists. So papers are being served by the London High Court to the insurers of the film company.
Michael Scoble, who was a wood machinist for Cannon Film Productions, passed away last year when he was 66. He was making scenery and props for films at the studios in Elstree Way and on location.
It was in 1993 that Mr Scoble and his wife Marilyn moved to Dorset where he eventually retired. He had completed a 30-years with the company by that time. Mrs Scoble says that her husband found out he had an asbestos-related disease in the same week he retired from the company. Mrs Scoble remembers that the last days of her husband were really miserable
"His death, like this, has ruined my life. We were settling down to our retirement. He had been fit and active all his life, but suddenly found he was getting out of breath all the time - even doing the gardening. He had no idea he had this disease. It's a silent killer and is like a walking time bomb for its victims," she said.
Mrs Scoble claims that her husband's death was due the asbestos-related disease caused by working at Cannon Film Productions in the 1970s. She said that Michale did not used anything to protect himself then as he had not been told of any dangers by anybody. She argues that people must be cautioned about the hazards of working with asbestos and the terrible diseases it can cause.
Mr Scoble had started the civil claim during the last few months of his life. Mrs Scoble says that her husband expected she would carry on with the suit after his death.
