Massachusetts Asbestos Victim Sues Corporations
Wallace Bunyea from Massachusetts is suing nine corporations after he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure. A suit was filed on June 4 in the Madison County Circuit Court.
The nine defendant corporations named in the suit are Bondex International, Garlock, Georgia-Pacific, John Crane, Owens-Illinois, Pneumo Abex, RPM International, RPM Inc., and Young Insulation Group.
Wallace Bunyea was working as a delivery driver, cleaner and systems technician in various locations since 1991. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma in April 2006.
According the claim, Bunyea he was exposed to and inhaled, ingested or otherwise absorbed asbestos fibers emanating from certain products he was working with and around during the course of his employment. Bunyea says that the defendants should have known that the asbestos fibers contained in their products had a noxious, poisonous and highly detrimental effect upon people's health.
The defendants used asbestos in their products though sufficient substitutes were readily available. Also, they didn't give any guidelines regarding the safe methods of working with and around asbestos, the claims says.
Bunyea alleges that the defendants failed to advise employees of hygiene practices planned to minimize or avoid carrying asbestos fibers home. As a result of their negligence, Bunyea was exposed to asbestos fibers and later developed a disease caused only by asbestos which has disabled and disfigured him, the claim states.
