Asbestos Removal in Henderson Housing Complex Raises Concerns

Asbestos removal in a public housing complex in Henderson raises concerns to the residents in the area. The Hampton Court Public Housing Project residents complains that the way the Clark County Housing Authority handles the asbestos removal from old units is pathetic.

According to the people living in that area, carcinogenic fibres are being released in the air during the asbestos abatement project handled by A&B Environmental, the company that's contracted to manage the removal. Additionally, the residents are also afraid proper safety precautions are not being followed by the Housing Authority. They alleges workers don't wear protective suits during the job.

However, A&B Environmental denied all the allegations.

"Each apartment has a three-stage decontamination process. Workers remove contaminated suits inside the units, so nobody outside would ever actually see a suit," an official from A&B Environmental said.

"We are a licensed asbestos removal company. Our methods have been signed off on by OSHA," A&B official said. "There are no safety concerns at that site for their workers, or for residents."

The Housing Authority also dismissed the allegation regarding precautions.
