Edna Human, a 79-year-old widow of a former BP refinery employee who passed away due to asbestos exposure, is in search of her husband's former colleagues in her bid for damages.
It was in January 2005 that Mr Wilf Human from Strood died from the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma when he was 82. He was a worker at the site on the Isle of Grain for 22 years.
Before M Human's demise, his wife Edna promised him that she would fight for a compensation from the company.
Mrs Human said she was hoping the former workmates of Mr Human would come forward to assist her in suing the company.
"Wilf had started to complain of pains in his chest in the summer of 2004 and he underwent lung surgery later that year," Mrs Human said.
She said that Wilf began work with the oil giant in June 1957 and worked there until 2 June 1979. "He was working on the jetties where tankers would come in with crude oil, and in the pumping stations," she said. "I hope Wilf's workmates will come forward to give statements about the pathetic working conditions there."
Paul Meehan, the Solicitor of Mrs Human said that Mr Human worked amongst hundreds (if not thousands) of pipes at the refinery that were lagged with asbestos.
"It is vital that people who worked with Mr Human, or who have first-hand knowledge of the refinery in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, come forward in order to give statements about working conditions there," he said.
