Texas Woman Sues 18 Companies in Asbestos Case
A Texas woman is suing 18 companies for allegedly exposing a man to asbestos and thus causing his malignant asbestos-related illness and eventual death.
Juanita Keith Hutto has filed a lawsuit against the companies on June 28 in Jefferson County District Court on behalf of Jimmie Jefferson Hutto, who died from an asbestos-related disease.
A.W. Chesterton Company, American Optical Corp., Anco Insulation, Asten Group, CBS Corporation, D&F Distributing, Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation, General Electric Corporation, Guardline, Ingersoll Rand, Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Co., Owens Illinois, Oxy USA, Sepco Corporation, Tin, TexasGulf, Union Carbide Corporation and Zurn Industries are the companies named as defendants in the case.
According to the complaint, Jimmie Jefferson Hutto was exposed to toxic asbestos fibers during his job as a welder, boilermaker, shipfitter, machinist and roughneck.
The plaintiff says the companies were aware of the hazards associated with asbestos exposure, but still were unwilling to remove their asbestos-containing products from the market. She also claims that Jimmie Jefferson Hutto was not provided with proper protective mask when he was working with and around asbestos products.
As a result of his fatal disease, Jimmie Jefferson Hutto experienced immense pain, mental anguish, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, disfigurement and physical impairment prior to his death, according to the complaint.
Juanita Keith Hutto also argues she has incurred medical and funeral expenses as a result of Jimmie’s death. She is seeking actual and exemplary damages, in addition to costs at legal rate and any other relief to which she might be entitled.
The case will be presided over by Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
