Inspiring Mesothelioma Survivor on His 10th Year of Recovery

Paul Kraus is marking the 10th year of recovery from mesothelioma this year.

Paul Kraus was born in  Austria  in 1944. He migrated with his parents to  Australia  when he was a young child. In the 1960s Paul worked beside an industry where asbestos sheets were sawn into smaller pieces. In June 1997, Paul was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma. He was expected only a few months to live. He and his family were shocked by the diagnosis. But they were not ready to give up. Mr. Kraus started researching various treatment options. Finally, he managed to create his own path to healing with the help of his doctors.

Paul Kraus said, "I have come to the belief that cancer can be cured and overcome, mesothelioma included. I have outlived my prognosis by many years and the medical specialist I visited not long ago told me that 'you will be around for a lot longer yet.'  My survival has been hard work. The underlying assumption with all that I have done, and continue to do, is a strong belief that our bodies are designed with amazing self-healing capacities."

Mr. Kraus has written a book about his diagnosis and healing called: "Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers - A Patient's Guide." This is one of the best-selling mesothelioma books in the world. It's readily available on Amazon.com. Dr. Bernie Siegel, M.D. was highly impressed by the book. This is how he commented on the book : "Paul Kraus' book has all the information a cancer patient needs to have in order to learn what survival behavior is about. The author shows you the importance of information combined with inspiration, spiritual resources, emotions and desire. The issue is not about failing, but becoming empowered."

Mr. Kraus wished to provide hope, support and inspiration to mesothelioma patients. He host free telephone calls for the newly diagnosed mesothelioma patients and their family members. They can speak directly to him. Mr. Kraus explains how he handled his diagnosis during these teleconferences. He describes what he studied about mesothelioma and the steps he took to heal his disease. He used to answer queries from patients as well as their loved ones. They talk to him regarding new drugs, surgery, holistic approaches, clinical trials, mind-body medicine, doctor-patient relationship etc. Mr. Kraus also points out the fact that he is not a doctor to provide any sort of medical advice and that what all he can do is to inspire patients with his own survival story and perceptions.
