Widow Sues Texaco and Chevron in Asbestos Case

The widow of a former pipefitter is suing Texaco and Chevron USA, claiming that the companies negligently exposed her husband to toxic asbestos fibers all through his career.

On behalf of late Homer Fitts, Eunice Fitts has filed a lawsuit against the companies on June 23 in Jefferson County District Court.

Homer was an employee of Texaco, the complaint says. According to the suit, he worked at Texaco’s Port Arthur refinery as a pipefitter and painter. He was exposed to asbestos dust and fibers during his job, the plaintiff claims.

Homer Fitts developed asbestosis and lung cancer as a result of his asbestos exposure. He died a painful and terrible death on March 10, 2010, according to the complaint.

Eunice Fitts argues that the companies were aware of the hazards of asbestos, but still allowed their employees to work with and around asbestos products in the workplace.

Eunice is seeking exemplary damages. Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, will preside over the case.
